This ethics continuing education workshop will review the most current updates of the NASW and ACA Codes of Ethics, Ohio Revised Code ethical standards, as well as assist participants in understanding standards for ethical decision making models in social work and counseling. As the workshop title suggests, it will provide a comprehensive overview of what ethical social workers and counselors need to know, that is the “nut’ and “bolts” of current NASW and ACA Codes of Ethics and much more. The workshop will further identify methods for solving ethical dilemmas in practice settings encountered by social workers and counselors in a variety of human service venues. Participants will also apply ethical decision making models to vignettes illustrating ethical dilemmas.
Workshop Learning Objectives - Upon completion, the participants will have gained knowledge, skills and abilities to:
Develop knowledge regarding the most current updates for NASW and ACA Codes of Ethics and the Ohio Revised Code standards for ethical social work and counseling practices;
Understand standards for ethical decision making and models related to social work, counseling and group work practices;
Participants will identify ethical problems and standards specific to social work and counseling practice and apply models to case vignettes relating to the most current NASW and ACA Code of Ethics and the ORC standards.

This workshop will provide an examination of the definition, description, skills and responsibilities of supervisors and administrators within the professions of social work and counseling. An understanding of these elements is essential because social workers and counselors more frequently move from direct service providers to supervising team members and managing a department or organization. The session will further examine best practice standards of social work and counselor supervision. Participants will receive an overview of administrative levels and responsibilities, and will be engaged in a self-study reviewing their professional competencies that can be used in supervising team members and directing a department or organization. Information will be given to help transition from being a team member to assuming the lead of a team as a supervisor or program administration.
Workshop Learning Objectives - Upon completion, the participants will have gained knowledge, skills and abilities to:
Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional supervisory judgment as social worker’s and counselor’s;
Gain an understanding of issues that relate to the many forms of diversity and difference that are found in the organization, and the effects on supervisor practices for social worker’s and counselors in human service agencies;
Understand how management and services are interdependent and how social work and counseling practitioners act as change agents to provide leadership and promote stability in quality service delivery that address existing human and organizational needs.
