Workshop Description
This workshop addresses social work supervision roles and responsibilities including administrative, educational and supportive functions. The focus will be on helping the participants understand the performance of social work supervision functions including administrative duties and supervisory functions in the areas of educational supervision and supportive supervision. This will be a good refresher workshop for those individuals who have been supervisors for several years as well as the new supervisor. Experiential exercises will be used to illustrate how specific practice roles are applied to achieving organizational goals as well as staff’s personal goals as the supervisor performs administrative, educational and supportive functions.
Workshop Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the workshop the participants will develop knowledge, skills and abilities to:
- Understand social work supervisory roles and responsibilities in the performance of administrative, educational and supportive functions;
- Examine the qualities and characteristics that makes a ‘good’ supervisor – “do’s” and “don’ts”;
- Explore different techniques in maximizing employee performance during difficult and turbulent times;
- Learn about different supervisory styles, and how to effectively use these while performing their roles and responsibilities;
- Re-examine and reaffirm the importance of the supervisory relationship and its inherent problems.
